Cleaning and Commuting

Hello friends and fans. :)

The end of week one, and my first furlough day (and what a glorious Friday it is!). It's hard to even consider this last week "week 1" though, since I spent most the week in limbo, caught somewhere between the start of my internship and the end of the year at Pacific. I finally am completely out of my apartment. Thank GOD. (Shout out to Ashley for helping me clean and listening to me endlessly sing bad renditions of Glee songs the entire time!) Hopefully I am done with these wretched post-work trips to Stockton for a while (I don't know how people commute...it's exhausting).

I always get a little emotional when I leave a space I've lived in (no, really, I'm kind of crazed -- sometimes I get emotional when I leave hotel rooms because I know I will probably never be in that room again in my life. Crazy, right?). So I was reflecting on the last year, and what a rollercoaster it's been. A lot of good. A lot of strife. A lot of new friends. A lot of new colleagues. A lot learned, both about myself and about life. I snapped a few pics before I left:

I still think it's got to be more than
a coincidence that Phi Tau was housed here
before Sigma Chi. I always found it to be a sign.

My escape hatch. Thank God for
this private door. It saved my sanity
more than once. I feel for the next RD, as this
feature is soon to be a relic of the past.

The desk. Need I say more?

On the job front, I now know what some of my big projects for the summer are: 1. Learning more about their Summer Bridge program for traditionally underrepresented student groups and working with Karlos to develop the curriculum for the leadership class they take. 2. Designing and running the training for the facilitators for the Summer Bridge leadership class. 3. Coordinating the Leadership Conference the department puts on in the fall for approximately 150 students. It's definitely a full plate, but I am excited. I am also a tad nervous, because I really want to step out of the box and be different in my approach to these projects, which is going to call for some creativity. For example, I've been through enough training programs to know a thing or two...but most of the time I complain about how whack-attack those training programs are, so here's my chance to create one that doesn't make me want to gouge my eyes out (and that doesn't incorporate The Human Knot or anything similar. Over my dead body will there be any human knotting.)

Emily and I are welcoming our first visitor tonight! Jon (Jon...JON!...JON!!!!) Hess is coming to visit. Apparently he has purchased another guitar. Question of the day: why is he so crazed?? :)
