I wanted to give a recap of the last 48 hours or so -- they've been such a whirlwind. Well, strike that. The last week has been a whirlwind. Check outs, internship orientation (you know your internship is going to rock when they have you in hardhats and safety vests within two hours of arriving), that insane SF adventure. cleaning the apt, and checking into my palatial 3-story townhouse (sadly, just temporary...although my permanent summer housing is pretty legit. Pics coming soon!)
Day 1 Review
My supervisor, Karlos, was in Vegas for a long weekend (jel!), so I didn't have much to do. So I spent most of my first day trying to come up with a title for my blog. So productive, right?
I did sit in on a really interesting meeting with representatives from Phi Delta Chi, who are looking to expand. In the past I viewed expansion as a largely dangerous thing, but I see a lot more positives to it now. I think it has the capacity to re-energize an entire Greek system by motivating fledgling organizations to get their butts in gear or lose PNMs to more motivated groups (and a more motivated group is more often a group who is recruiting based on values and not reputation or parties).
Some other observations from day 1:
Two monitors is the only way I will live from now on.
A 79 cent charge to use a debit card at Gordito Burrito is entirely unacceptable.
The SOAL department really loves their golf cart. And by really loves, I mean they REALLY LOVE it.
The University Union is a labyrinth, and everywhere I turn there is some sort of eatery. (Loves it!)
