Delegation, Duties, and Denny's

I'm back-logging this entry because I didn't have a chance to write yesterday.

I need to emulate Leanna's incredible ability to delegate ... she gets a lot done in a day (even when she's only there for a few hours - she had to go home because she wasn't feeling well). What's more, when she gives me things to do, I feel productive and as though my work actually matters to the SOAL office. I need to remember this for next year and delegate properly as an RD.

Today we had our first staff meeting. I got to present on my idea for Move-in. Like most state schools, Sacramento State is going through a bit of a budget crisis (understatement, thy name is Emily). This means Leanna and I are planning Move-in day with a non-existent budget. To get some more donations, I had the idea of approaching local businesses with the offer to buy the rights to advertise on campus for one day. In general it's pretty expensive to advertise at Sac State, so this would give businesses the opportunity to reach 3,000 + people (about 1600 students and their parents) all at once for a discounted price. We would then use the money to buy ... whatever for the incoming students. Everyone in the SOAL Office liked the idea and when I e-mailed Anthony (yes, Pacific people - that Anthony! He says "hi!"), he liked it as well.

So now this is one of my duties along with the other fun stuff Leanna has assigned me (I'm not kidding - I love this internship!). Currently I'm:
1) Working with the Women's Resource Center to bring a speaker series to campus
2) Helping to coordinate Move-in day
3) Getting ready to start working on the Greek Leadership track for the Sac State Leadership Conference

After work, Jake and I came back to Stockton and closed-up our apartments. It felt so odd to turn in all of my keys. And then, of course, about halfway back to Sacramento, I realized that I had left my extra sets of contacts in my apartment. I'm going to have to see if I can coordinate with someone to key me into my apartment the next time I visit to grab those. I don't think I'll make it for two months with my current pair ...

For dinner, Jake, Ashley (who helped Jake move), and I went to Denny's. Advice: NEVER go to the Denny's on March on a Thursday night. It took an HOUR to get our food. And, of course, Jake had to say something so incredibly ridiculous during the wait that I proceeded to snort Diet Pepsi out of my nose and pop my ears. I won't repeat what he said gentle reader ... I don't want to harm your delicate sensibilities.

Also, I know some of you are curious, so I took some pictures of my apartment:

  1. Um, after seeing these pictures I simply do not understand why I haven't visited yet... Soon, I tell you. Soon.

  2. Those are really nice diggs, my apartment looks as dated as it feels being back east...but at least they put me in a building with AC and great roommates. One even has a car!
